Reading For Racquets is a USTA/Southern program designed to introduce tennis to elementary school children in the same way most subjects are introduced, using a multidisciplinary approach. In much the same way a teacher will use math in a science curriculum or literature in a history class, Reading For Racquets introduces not only the game of tennis, but at the same time, the core values that tennis espouses: the importance of reading, the value of exercise and healthy eating habits, and esteem for good sportsmanship. Many thanks to our pilot school, Dadeville Elementary in Dadeville, Alabama. Without the enthusiastic support of teachers and students this program would not exist.
And most important: Reading For Racquets is designed to complement daily schedules in an elementary school. To that end, you may choose to use one or more of its components, in a way that best fits into your school’s lifestyle.
We hope this site provides useful ideas for your tennis program.

Our new, experimental, all-weather backboard. We plan to add colorful logos and a net-line once we have tested its durability with middle school students.
